The movie “Amazing Grace” is a fitting way to end 2010 and to begin 2011. William Pitt is portrayed as saying that they were too young to know that they can’t do the impossible; so they go ahead and do it anyway. Even though Pitt was not a believer, he seems to have caught a spiritual truth. When God calls a person to do something, it becomes possible. As Gabriel told Mary, “For with God nothing will be impossible.” I believe that the church will be called to do the impossible in 2011.
Wilberforce is told in the movie that it is possible to both serve God and be a political activist. Whether God places us in government, business, education, or the military, God expects us to serve Him while we perform the tasks that we are called on to perform in our secular roles.
William Wilberforce is an example for us that when we are called by God to tackle injustice in whatever sphere we live in, He will empower us to succeed. Perseverance through all kinds of difficulties may be required. Opposition will not just lay down in front of us. We are called to battle but, ultimately, the battle is the Lord’s.
God has great things in store for His church in 2011. I believe that God has great things in store for LCC in 2011. We need to remember who we are and whose we are. Let’s stand arm in arm with our brothers and sisters in Christ who are involved in other congregations in the Tidewater region. Let’s be the whole church taking the whole Gospel to the whole city! 2011 holds lots of promise and lots of potential. If we keep our focus on the Lord Jesus, we will fulfill everything that God is laying before us!
