Creator and Re-Creator

At the beginning of this new year, I would like to take us back to the beginning. No, not the beginning of 2018; the beginning of … everything

It is important for us as believers in Jesus Christ to affirm our belief in God as the Creator. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). God created everything that exists. Everything in this vast universe is a result of His creative power; and John tells us in John 1:3 that all of it was accomplished through the Word, who was with God and who was God.

The apostle Paul reaffirms this fact in Acts 17:24 where he states that God made the world and everything in it.

Even more significant than God being the Creator way back at the beginning is that He also is the Re-Creator. “Then the One who sat on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new’” (Revelation 21:5). If we think this just refers to the physical world of the heavens and the earth, Paul tells us that “…if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…” (II Corinthians 5:17).

God as Creator and Re-Creator not only gives us assurance of His incredible power to bring everything into existence, but it also gives us hope for today in that He is at work making us into new creatures. It also gives us hope for tomorrow, knowing that, even though this world is in such disarray, God is still at work and will bring it all to that place of order and peace that He has had in mind since before time began.

God, in Jesus Christ, is worthy of our trust. He is big enough to handle anything that we throw at Him; and no matter how dysfunctional our world may be today, He is able to put it in order and re-create our lives. Trust Him with your life today!
