This Wade In The Water song relates to both the Old and New Testaments. [1]The verses reflect the Israelites' escape out of Egypt as found in Exodus 14. [2] The chorus refers to healing: see John 5:4, "For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.”
I heard it for the first time yesterday when Dan and Roxy led it. My favorite part in the story of John 5 is when Jesus asked the man that had been sick for 38 years, “Would like to get well?” I am imagining some of the disciples wondering in their minds, "What kind of question is that, Jesus? Obviously, the man needs healing. Why would he be here?" You see, the man’s hope was on the water, but Jesus troubled the water a totally different way for him. “Stand Up, pick up your mat, and walk.”
When you listen to this song, may you experience the same miracle! Galatians 5:1 “Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.”
